After the pandemic forced us to take a short break in 2021, the SALT New Music Festival is back at the University of Victoria! Presented by Tsilumos Ensemble in collaboration with Victoria Composers Collective and Quasar Saxophone Quartet, there will be a total of three live-streamed concerts followed by an après-concert discussion session with performers, composers, and audience members. Quasar will participate in two of these three concerts.

On December 15, the Conseil Québécois de la Musique announced its nominations for the Opus Awards Gala of the 2020-2021 season, which will take place on March 6th.

We are very pleased and honored to announce that our latest album De Souffles et de Machines III is one of the finalists in the Album of the Year in the category - Current, Electro-acoustic Music!

Thank you and congratulations to the participants and our collaborators:

composers Jimmie LeBlanc, Georgia Spiropoulos, Annesley Black and Sergej Maingardt;

Quasar saxophone quartet will be in a professional development residency at the Centre d’Expérimentation Musicale (CEM) in the month of December to present the concert Ode au métal.

Big news! Our last four albums – Miroir des vents (2009), Du souffle (2015), De souffles et de machines (2016) and De souffles et de machines III (2021) –  are now available as digital downloads on our Bandcamp page for $8 CDN apiece. You can now have all of our recordings from the past twelve years on your favourite device.

International collaborations are back for Quasar!

Montreal, October 26, 2021 — Only a week after QUÉBEC-PAYS-BASQUE, our concert with Trio Zukan co-produced by the Groupe le Vivier, Quasar flies to Västerås, Sweden, where they will perform the first of a nine-concert series in Europe. There will be some collaborations with European ensembles, workshops and masterclasses, festival entries and many international premieres from Quebec and international composers.

Quasar takes in hand its 9th Opus Prize, along with a grant in recognition of its international outreach !

We are still on cloud 9 about the 24th Opus Awards Gala, where we won the “International Outreach” award! A huge thank you to the Conseil québécois de la musique and to CINARS for their consideration!

We are presenting Chaleurs, by Walter Boudreau, this upcoming February 26th!

For the 10th edition of the SNCQ's Montreal / New Musics festival, we have the honour of presenting Chaleurs, a monumental work by Walter Boudreau. Accompanying us on stage will be dancer and choreographer Paul-André Fortier.

The event will be available as a live webcast, free of charge.

To learn more, visit the website of the SMCQ.

All concerts and activities scheduled through July have been cancelled.

It is with regret that our partners of the Vivier Group have announced the suspension of their 2019-2020 season following recent directives given by Quebec's Institute of Public Health, This announcement make official the cancellation of our Électro Libre concert and the end of our concert hall activities for the current season.
