Addressed to performers and composers alike — from students to emerging professionals — these activities provide valuable opportunities for young musicians to refine their craft, exchange ideas, and work closely with passionate and internationally recognized pedagogues.
Masterclasses & Workshops
Saxophone and Woodwind Masterclasses
- Repertoire ranging from standard works to contemporary music,
- Solo, chamber music, and ensemble coaching.
Reading Sessions for Composition Students
- Open reading sessions of students’ works or sketches. Quasar will perform and discuss the pieces, answer composers’ questions, and provide general feedback on writing for saxophone.
Writing for Saxophone: A Collaborative Process Between Composers and Performers
- Originally conceived for composers, this workshop is also open to performers interested in contemporary music. Topics include extended techniques, musical notation, and the collaborative relationship between composers and performers.
Music and New Technologies
- Through recordings, videos, scores, and live demonstrations, the ensemble retraces the evolution of its practice while offering a critical perspective on the challenges encountered, the solutions developed, and the factors contributing to the success and future of interdisciplinary performance.
Free Improvisation Workshop
- Led by Jean-Marc Bouchard with the participation of all Quasar members, these workshops are open to instrumentalists, singers, and performers using laptops or digital instruments. Participants are invited to improvise collectively while exploring concepts such as form, structure, interaction, and listening.
Jazz Masterclass
- Led by André Leroux, this masterclass is open to jazz musicians and ensembles of all kinds, from soloists and combos to big bands. Topics include improvisation, phrasing, jazz harmony, ensemble playing, and more.
