Canadian tour : St John's, Edmonton, Winnipeg (Winter 2026)

Montréal, February 11, 2026 — The Montreal-based Quasar Saxophone Quartet will embark on a major Canadian tour, reaffirming its position as a leading force in contemporary music. Traveling from St. John’s to Winnipeg, with key stops in Edmonton, the quartet will present a series of performances and collaborations that highlight its ongoing commitment to musical creation, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

The tour began in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, where Quasar was the featured guest artist at the Newfound Music Festival XXIII at Memorial University. This annual event brought together the university community through concerts, workshops, and a symposium focused on new musical ideas. Quasar will then head to Edmonton for a performance at MacEwan University’s Betty Andrews Recital Hall, presenting the program Cinq pièces liquides. Bridging repertoire and contemporary creation, the program will include a piece by Edmonton-based composer Charles Stolte, followed by a roundtable discussion on sustaining a professional ensemble career.

Still in Edmonton, Quasar will take part in the North American premiere of The Light of Paradise by composer Paul Mealor. Presented by Pro Coro Canada, this large-scale choral work for choir, soloists, and saxophone quartet offers a powerful spiritual and musical experience inspired by the life of medieval mystic Margery Kempe. The tour will conclude in Winnipeg with Vestigial Structures, an avant-garde concert presented by GroundSwell at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Featuring immersive audiovisual works, including several premieres, the program will accompany Quasar’s residency in the city, during which the ensemble will serve as ensemble-in-residence, offer masterclasses, and engage closely with emerging composers.
