Cut Up
(1991
)
Composer:
Christer Lindwall
For saxophone quartet
Lindwall’s pieces demand co-creative elite musicians. Cut Up depicts the playing of musical instruments as hard, physical labour, involving a great deal of blasting, stretching, compressing, puffing and panting. Apart from its lexicographical definition, Cut Up can also mean peeling away inessentials, sloughing of the old. Written in 1990-1991, Cut Up was commissioned by the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet and premiered in 1992 during the World Saxophone Congress in Pessaro (Italy).
