Three Pieces for String Quartet

The three short pieces use modules drawn from a system of triangular numerical sequences:
(1, 1‑2, 1‑2‑3, 1‑2‑3‑4, etc.). Each piece is a kind of playful puzzle, the music gets lost in the process itself, in the figures of a system, a method, trying to discover something. The joy of moving forward and finding a path back to the start is it’s musical motivation. The title is a tribute to Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Clarinet, but if it had been composed in four parts, the title would have changed and it would have been a tribute to John Cage.
