Hamra is Swedish for ‘to hammer’.
Hamra was intended to be a short footnote to - or comment on - my large trilogy Licks & Brains for saxophones (1987-1988).
This ‘footnote’ evolved (more or less unintentionally) into a rather extensive work with a duration of more than 20 minutes,
a work in which a wide range of articulations and ways of playing are employed.
The first part is characterized by a ‘hammered’ articulation: the tremolo staccato.
