Sophie Dupuis

Sophie Dupuis is a French-speaking composer from New Brunswick. A vibrant artist with a diverse portfolio, she has received commissions and performances by soloists and ensembles such as Ballet-Opéra-Pantomine, Duo Holz, Ventus Machina, Made in Trio, Thin Edge New Music Collective, ECM+, Quasar, Esprit Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Her debut album, Comme bon lui semble, featuring a collection of works inspired by visual art, was released on Navona Records in October 2023.

Sophie distinguished herself during her university studies, receiving numerous awards and scholarships and participating in several highly competitive 
professional development workshops. Over the past ten years, her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, artsNB, FACTOR, and the SOCAN Foundation. She was selected by composer James Rolfe to receive the Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Prize Protégée Award, and by contemporary voice specialist Janice Jackson to share the Friends of Canadian Music Award. Her album was nominated for a 2024 Music NB Award in the category Recording of the Year.

In addition to her work as a composer, she is active as a freelance violinist, arranger, and music educator. She is deeply engaged in her community as both a volunteer and a cultural worker.
Sophie holds a Bachelor of Music from Dalhousie University, as well as a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Toronto. She currently lives in Edmundston, New Brunswick.
