Jimmie LeBlanc is a Canadian composer born in 1977 in the Province of Quebec. He studied composition and musical analysis at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and has completed a doctorate degree at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Ensembles that have performed his music include Ensemble Contrechamps, Esprit Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini, Ensemble Transmission and Camerata Aberta. He took part in the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne’s Forum in Lyon (2008) while he was also in residence at Grame, the national centre for musical creation. 

In the last few years, LeBlanc was the recipient of the Lutoslawski Award (2008) and he won the Canada Arts Council’s Jules-Léger Prize for New Chamber Music (2009) for his work L’Espace intérieur du monde. He is the author of  Luigi Nono et les chemins de l’écoute (L’Harmattan, 2010), Xenakis’ Aesthetics: The Paradoxes of a Formalist Intuition (Xenakis Matters, Pendragon Press, 2012) and of two chapters in La création musicale au Québec (éd. Jonathan Goldman, PUM, 2014). He is currently in charge of the section Cahiers d’analyse in the magazine Circuit : musiques contemporaine and teaches composition and music analysis at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
