Gordon Hyland

( - )

Gordon Hyland is a jazz saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader of numerous ensembles in Toronto. His works and sound designs have been heard in award-winning films (Picture Day, O Negative), and theatre productions (Randolph Academy, Rogue Theatre, Baro Theatre, Red One Theatre, Candles Are For Burning). Far from being a jazz purist, Hyland has gone out of his way to forge a unique career path for himself, developing a sound and style wholly his own from years of working with effects pedals and electronic elements in his compositions. He aims to connect the dots between theory, performance, creativity and technology. With this in mind, he currently leads the ensemble Living Fossil, releasing their debut album, ‘Never Die!’, in early 2018, which features former members of the cult band Ninja Funk Orchestra, guest saxophonist and co-producer Mike Murley, and bassist Vivienne Wilder. Hyland is also an active freelancer and regular performer with Dwayne Gretzky, Ronley Teper & The Lipliners, Vivienne Wilder & The Vice Presidents, Blunt Object, and the Mack Longpre Quartet.
