Johannes Schöllhorn

Born in 1962, Johannes Schöllhorn studied composition with Klaus Huber, Emanuel Nunes and Mathias Spahlinger and music theory with Peter Förtig. He also studied conducting with Peter Eötvös. He has won numerous prizes and distinctions in composition competitions. Johannes Schöllhorn has worked with numerous soloists, ensembles and orchestras, notably with the Ensemble Modern, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, L’Instant donné, ensemble recherche, Neue Vocalsolisten, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Ascolta, das Neue Ensemble, the WDR and SWR radio orchestras, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra London. His catalogue includes chamber music, vocal and orchestral works as well as music for the theatre. Johannes Schöllhorn has also transcribed significant works, notably ...explosante-fixe...by Pierre Boulez. Between 1995 and 2000 Johannes Schöllhorn taught at the Musikhochschule Zürich-Winterthur (Switzerland). He was also conductor of the Ensemble für Neue Musik of the Musikhochschule Freiburg (Germany). From 2001 to 2009 he was professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover (Germany). He is currently professor of composition and Director
of the Institut für Neue Musik at the Hochschule für Musik, in Köln. He has also given composition seminars and masterclasses all over the world, notably for the Royaumont Foundation (France), the Ictus Ensemble, the Bartók Festival (Hungary), the Tianjin Conservatory of Music (China), the Takefu-Festival (Japan) and the Centro San Fedele Milan (Italy).
