interference (all we've ever had is each other)* (2017)
Composer: Adam Basanta
For saxophone quartet and feedback system

interference (all we've ever had is each other) explores sounds made through the unstable intertwinning of Saxophones and amplification systems. That is, the resulting sounds are composites of human, mechanical, and electronics actions; if one of the elements is removed, sound would be replaced by silence.

The interwined relationships are inherently unstable. They prevent the performer from having complete control of the relationship between manual action and resulting sound. Rather, the performers are continually adjusting to changing conditions, finding new sounds or struggling to reproduce a recent sound. The choreographic difficulty of this "search" is intended as a visual compositional element.
